Dave Spilsbury
David (Dave) Spilsbury is an Arizona native who has been working with Arizona trees since 1993. The adventure began in 1993 when he and other family members started Tree Doctors, Inc. to revive trees dying from nutrient deficiencies and other diseases. His father, Ralph Spilsbury, has a Ph.D. in plant science and was the initial brains behind this effort. Dave became an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist in 1996. In 1997, Tree Doctors expanded to offer pruning and removal services, and Dave’s love of arboriculture deepened as he reconnected with his boyhood love of tree climbing. In 1998 Dave left Tree Doctors Inc. to start Tree Doctors North, Inc. a full-service tree company which serviced Scottsdale, Phoenix and Paradise Valley. David began attending tree climbing competitions in California and decided that Arizona climbers needed to benefit from these events. During his time as a Board Member of Arizona Community Tree Council in 2003-2005, he worked to start the Arizona Tree Climbing Championship which was first held in 2005 and continues as an annual event. This invaluable tool has helped to raise skill levels and camaraderie among Arizona arborists. As a founder and past champion of the Arizona Tree Climbing Competition, Dave continues to support its importance. To further his consulting expertise, Dave attended and graduated from the American Society of Consulting Arborists Academy in 2004.
In 2011, Dave sold Tree Doctors North to family members who owned Tree Doctors, Inc. which serviced other Valley Cities and now services the entire Valley. Leaving to pursue another dream, he began attending law school in Phoenix at Arizona Summit Law School. In December 2013, he graduated magna cum laude. After passing the February 2014 bar, he became a licensed attorney and began work as a Prosecutor for the City of Phoenix in 2015. After five years specializing in both Domestic Violence and DUI cases, it was time to start his own firm, Spilsbury Law, in Mesa, Arizona. However, missing trees, and continuing to get requests for tree advice, Dave continues to offer Arboriculture consulting services. With over 25 years’ experience, having been called upon to assess thousands of diseased and dying trees in Arizona, if you have a sick tree or tree concerns of any kind, Dave can help.
